Elite Precast Concrete is supporting the Mineral Products Association's (MPA) Stay Safe 2026 campaign, helping to raise awareness of the risks associated with open water and restricted industrial sites across Shropshire.

With warmer weather encouraging more people to spend time outdoors, safety organisations are urging the public to be aware of the hidden dangers that can be found in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, quarries and other water-filled sites.

Recent national reports have highlighted a rise in water-related incidents during periods of hot weather, with experts warning that cold water shock remains a serious risk even when air temperatures are high.

The campaign also follows recent incidents where individuals have become trapped in mud and difficult terrain at disused sites, demonstrating the importance of respecting warning signs, barriers and restricted access areas.

As a Shropshire-based manufacturer serving the construction industry, Elite Precast is proud to support initiatives that promote community safety and encourage responsible behaviour.

The MPA is encouraging site operators to review public safety measures, including fencing, signage and site security, while also promoting vital water safety messages for members of the public.

One of the key messages is the RNLI's Float to Live guidance. If someone unexpectedly enters deep water, they should:

  • Tilt their head back with ears submerged
  • Relax and control their breathing
  • Move their hands gently to stay afloat
  • Call for help or swim to safety once the initial shock has passed

If you see someone in difficulty, remember PHONE – FLOAT – THROW:

PHONE 999 immediately

FLOAT – encourage them to float on their back

THROW – throw something that floats to help them stay above water

Importantly, never enter the water yourself to attempt a rescue.

By raising awareness and promoting safe behaviours, local businesses and communities can work together to help prevent avoidable accidents and ensure everyone enjoys a safe summer.
