Marches Care Limited is a family-run company which operates both the Uplands at Oxon care home and the Uplands Day Resource Centre on the same site on the edge of Shrewsbury.

The Uplands was previously based at Dorrington but the West family – who own and run Marches Care – decided to install a brand new, purpose-built home at Bicton Heath in a tranquil position with open views towards the Stretton Hills.

Since its launch in 2007, the Uplands at Oxon has cemented its reputation as a nationally recognised provider of top-level nursing and dementia care, now employing more than 150 nurses, carers and other staff.

In the most recent report given by the Care Quality Commission, the Uplands at Oxon won praise for every aspect of its operation. It is also a Gold Standard Framework commended home for end of life care.

The Uplands provides nursing and dementia nursing care for up to 81 older adults in single bedroom accommodation, each one light, airy, well-equipped and with en-suite bathroom facilities, and some with their own patios.

The home offers short-term rehabilitation care in partnership with local statutory health and social care colleagues, and accommodation which supports the diagnosis and treatment of some long term conditions.

Dementia care

The Home is seen as an exemplar in the care of older people with dementia-related illnesses. In 2011 the Uplands won a bid from the Strategic Health Authority to create a training programme for carers of people with dementia. The Uplands supports the Dementia Friends movement by holding awareness sessions in the local community.

The Day Resource Centre

The Uplands Day Resource Centre is a purpose-built facility which lies adjacent to the nursing home. It offers a comfortable environment for older adults with a wide range of facilities and activities including hairdressing, computer and internet access, a kitchen, private garden, luncheon clubs, film afternoons, handicrafts and social events.

The team there works closely with partner organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society and Age UK, as well as clients’ families, to ensure the day centre provides the best possible service tailored to the needs of its clients.

Marches Care and the Community

Marches Care is enormously proud to support the community, working with local schools, charitable and church groups, other organisations and individuals to ensure that both the care home and the day resource centre have the spirit of community running through all they do.
