Case study – Shropshire firm boosts its international business

Shrewsbury based company Tastes Marvellous has seen its business grow around the world with the advice and support of UKTI. An international exporter of food, selling mainly popular British brands to consumers all over the world, the company looked to UKTI to find new markets. Tastes Marvellous was seeking countries to sell its more niche products to and Director Katie Smith explains that “straight away we could see the opportunities that were out there”.

Tastes Marvellous joined UKTI’s Passport to Export programme and used the Overseas Market Introduction Service for the USA, Australia and China. Success stories have included with baby milk in China, where the company used UKTI guidance to overcome language and culture barriers. The company regularly attends events and workshops and Smith calls the support of her international trade adviser “absolutely brilliant – she always points us in the right direction”. With £100,000 in new sales and 4 new staff recruited, the business is set to go from strength to strength. Smith encourages local companies to start exporting, saying “You kind of forget that there’s this whole other world out there. You think that it’s just the UK, but when you break out you can see so much more”.
